Sod removal means taking out the grass and the top layer of root and soil holding it together, not just mowing it down. Where a machine can reach the area we strip it mechanically, which is faster and leaves a more even surface. On tight lots or narrow side-gate access common in older Palm Beach & Broward County neighborhoods we cut and lift it by hand. Either way, everything cut leaves in our trailer — there is no pile left on the driveway.
In South Florida it's usually chinch bug or fungus damage that has taken more of the lawn than a treatment can save, a lawn losing to weeds, a homeowner converting to rock, mulch, or artificial turf, or the prep stage for a paver patio, pool deck, driveway extension, or new bed. Each of those wants a different finished surface, so tell us what's going in next and we'll leave it at the right depth.
Stripping sod drops the grade an inch or two, which matters if the new surface has to meet a walkway, a slab, or a driveway. We can grade the area after removal and bring in topsoil or fill to build it back to the right height — priced by the yard delivered and spread. We do not make guarantees about drainage correction; if your yard holds water, we'll say what we can and can't affect.
Square footage first, then access — a machine through a wide gate is a very different job from wheelbarrowing through a five-foot side yard. After that: how wet the ground is, how deep the root layer runs, whether irrigation heads and lines have to be worked around, and disposal weight, since wet sod and soil are heavy. Sprinkler lines are avoided where they're marked; unmarked private lines are a real risk on any dig, and we'll flag that before starting.
