What has to happen before a house is demolished?
Before the equipment arrives: confirm ownership, order the asbestos survey, schedule disconnects for electric, gas, water and sewer, get the demolition permit, and decide what stays (slab, driveway, trees, fence). Then remove anything you want to keep from the house.
Tell your insurance company and, if there's a mortgage, your lender.
Septic tanks and wells may have their own abandonment rules.
Let neighbors know the schedule. It prevents complaints and access problems.
Take photos of property lines, fences and sidewalks before work begins.
