Mattresses are one of the trickiest items to get rid of legally in Palm Beach County. Most thrift stores won't take them, your weekly trash crew will leave them at the curb, and dumping them is a $500+ fine. Here's every legal option, ranked by cost.
Option 1 — City bulk pickup (free, slow)
Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, Lake Worth, and Boca Raton all offer scheduled bulk-trash pickup that includes mattresses. You typically need to call your city's solid-waste line 48–72 hours ahead. Mattresses must be at the curb, not inside the garage, and may need to be in a sealed bag if there are bed bugs.
Option 2 — Donation (free, condition matters)
Faith Farm Ministries (Boynton Beach) and Habitat for Humanity ReStore (multiple PBC locations) will sometimes accept mattresses in 'like-new' condition with no stains, tears, or odors. Call first — policies change. They almost never accept used pillow-tops.
