Hiring a Contractor in Florida: License, Insurance, Permits Checklist

Updated October 2026 · By the All Out Rubbish crew

Most bad contractor experiences start with skipping a few simple checks. Use this list before signing for demolition, fencing, decks, concrete, tree work or handyman jobs.

Verify license and insurance

Ask for the license number and a certificate of insurance. We are licensed, insured, and bonded, with a contractor on site for every job, and provide proof of insurance on request.

Know who pulls permits

Structural work, many fences and decks, electrical, plumbing and some tree removals need permits in South Florida cities. The contractor should tell you which permits apply and who pulls them.

Get the scope in writing

A written quote should list what is included, cleanup and debris removal, materials, and what would change the price. Photos are often enough for an accurate first quote.

One crew for demo, haul-away and rebuild

Using one company for teardown, debris removal and the rebuild avoids gaps between crews and finger-pointing over who cleans up.

FAQs

Handyman or licensed contractor?

Small repairs suit a handyman. Structural, electrical, plumbing and permitted work should go to a licensed contractor.

Do you remove the debris?

Yes. Haul-away is part of how we work, since the company started in junk removal.
