How to Clean Out a Florida Garage in One Weekend (Without Renting a Truck)
Updated August 2026 · By the All Out Rubbish crew
A South Florida garage collects a specific kind of clutter: hurricane supplies, beach gear, half-used pool chemicals, and boxes that have not been opened since the move. Here is the plan that clears it in two days.
Saturday morning: empty it onto the driveway
Do not sort in place. Pull everything out onto the driveway so you can see the volume. Most people discover the garage is 60% items they have not touched in three years. Start early — by 11 AM the concrete is brutal.
The four-pile method
Keep, Donate, Sell, Haul. Give yourself five seconds per item. If you have to think about whether you will use it, it goes to Donate. Anything broken, rusted, water-damaged, or missing a part goes straight to Haul — Florida humidity has already decided for you.
What cannot go in the trash
Paint, pool chemicals, pesticides, motor oil, gasoline, propane tanks, car batteries, and tires. These go to a Solid Waste Authority household hazardous waste drop-off, free for county residents with ID. Old CRT TVs and electronics need an e-waste recycler.
Sunday: shelve, zone, and haul
Put the Keep pile back in zones — hurricane supplies together and reachable, tools on one wall, seasonal storage up high. Then get the Haul pile gone the same day, because a pile left in the driveway migrates back into the garage by Wednesday.
What haul-away costs
A typical single-car garage clear-out is a quarter to a half trailer load: roughly $175–$295 flat, labor and disposal included. A packed two-car garage is often a full load at about $595. Text a photo of the pile to (561) 345-9808 and you will get a firm number before we come out.

FAQs
Do I have to be there for the pickup?
No. Plenty of customers leave the pile in the driveway or garage and pay by card, Zelle, or Venmo remotely. We send before-and-after photos.
Can you take the old paint cans?
Latex paint that has been dried out with kitty litter can go in regular disposal. Wet paint and solvents must go to a hazardous waste drop-off — we will tell you the nearest one.
Will you donate what is still good?
Yes. Usable furniture, tools, and sporting goods are routed to Faith Farm or Habitat ReStore at no extra charge.
