How to Compare Demolition Quotes (and Spot What's Missing)
5 min read · Updated 2026-10-30
Compare demolition quotes scope by scope, not total by total. Check who handles the permit and asbestos survey, whether the slab, pool and driveway are removed, what disposal is included, the finished lot condition and how surprises are handled.
Why totals mislead
A low number often leaves out the slab, the pool, the driveway or the permit. Lay quotes side by side and line up what each one actually removes.
The checklist
Ask every contractor the same questions and get the answers in writing.
- Who pulls the demolition permit?
- Who orders the asbestos survey and any abatement?
- Slab and footings: removed or left?
- Pool, driveway, trees, fence: included?
- Hauling and disposal: all included?
- Finished lot: rough-cleared, debris-free, or flat?
- What happens if buried debris or a septic tank is found?
- Proof of license, insurance and bonding
Red flags
Verbal-only scopes, no permit, and quotes that can't say what the lot will look like when they leave.
