How much fill dirt do I need?
Multiply length × width × depth in feet and divide by 27 to get cubic yards. A 20×20 ft area filled 6 inches deep needs about 7.4 cubic yards. Add 10–20% for settling.
Fill dirt for grading; topsoil for planting.
Compaction reduces volume.
