Demolition comparison
Full Demolition vs Deconstruction
Should the house come down with machines, or be taken apart piece by piece to salvage materials?
Deconstruction means dismantling a building by hand to save reusable materials. Full mechanical demolition is faster and is what most South Florida teardowns use.
Full mechanical demolition
Best for:
- You want the lot cleared quickly
- The house has little salvage value
- Storm, fire or flood damage
Deconstruction
Best for:
- Historic or high-value materials
- You want to donate materials
- You have time and budget for slower work
| Full mechanical demolition | Deconstruction | |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | Faster | Much slower, mostly hand labor |
| Salvage | Selected items can be pulled first | Most reusable material is saved |
| Labor | Equipment does most of the work | Large crew, more hours |
| Permits and asbestos review | Required | Still required |
Our take
Most owners choose full demolition and pull a few items first, such as doors, fixtures or cabinets. If you want something saved, tell us before demolition day.
Questions
Can I keep things before the house comes down?
Yes. Remove what you want first, or list items to set aside before demolition day.
Does deconstruction skip the asbestos survey?
No. Asbestos rules apply to demolition and renovation either way.
