Demolition comparison
Demolition vs Cleanout
Do you need the building torn down, or just emptied?
A cleanout removes contents: furniture, junk and belongings. Demolition removes the structure. Many demolition projects need a cleanout first.
Demolition
Best for:
- The structure is coming down
- Building a new home on the lot
- Condemned or unsafe buildings
Cleanout
Best for:
- Selling or renting the house as-is
- Estate and hoarder situations
- Preparing for renovation
| Demolition | Cleanout | |
|---|---|---|
| What's removed | The building itself | Contents only |
| Permit | Demolition permit required | Usually none |
| Utilities | Disconnected before demolition | Stay on |
| Quote | Written project quote | Priced by volume |
Our take
If you're keeping the building, you need a cleanout. If it's coming down, ask whether contents can go with the demolition debris or need to be removed first. We do both.
